How corporate governance is helping a Panchayat in Kerala, Kizhakkambalam to excel ..

To this day, corporates have not harmed anyone.  The corporate never seemed to be a terrorist who was bound to eat the man as a whole.  They have not drained anyone's blood, except for the fact that a simple graduate who could have taught at a parallel college in the country or driven an auto rickshaw would have had a dignified life through corporate work.  Not only that, but they have paid him as much as he could afford for his education.

This is not a corporate bragging right.  It is about the 2020 election victory in Kizhakambalam panchayat.  I need not say more about that one movement, you may have seen a lot of videos about the comforts that people in the East Coast enjoy.  Nowadays we see those people who were lucky enough to buy a kilo of sugar for 10 rupees and a kilo of coconut oil for 44 rupees.

Sabu Jacob, the inventor of the Kambalam model, was also present at the Asianet discussion.  In that discussion, he explained the secrets behind turning a panchayat with a debt of Rs 35 lakh into a panchayat with a surplus of Rs 13.5 crore.  Most importantly, he said, it was to avoid corruption at the governmental level, to avoid middlemen for many things, and to save a large amount of money from it itself.  Many in Kerala know, without Sabu, that the remaining 60 are being stolen by politicians and bureaucrats.

A minister, a politician, an academic and then Sabu of the 2020 panchayat were in the discussion.  One of the jokes was that Sabu, a corporate giant, spends all the money he spends on the panchayat out of his own pocket.  In a surplus panchayat, the question remains as to why a corporate should be so cash-strapped.) What was then seen was a kind of political intolerance to establish that this system of corporates would not succeed broadly in the state of Kerala.  It does not take a great deal of intellect to understand that Sabu is not the only one who can afford to build roads, cut and spend for the people in the country with the profits made by Kitex and Anna Aluminum.  Because such a head-scratching person cannot be such a successful businessman.

But it is as clear as day that Sabuchayan has a talent that politicians and many ministers do not have.  That is management excellence.  He is successful as a big corporate entrepreneur because of that management excellence.  It is because of that incompetence that you and I continue to be worthless of a chuck and a lime.  His business management skills, he used beautifully in the administration of a panchayat.  It was a success.  Satisfied with the people, the   Kizhakkambalam panchayat was retained and the three nearby panchayats were captured.  If only the three neighboring panchayats had embraced 2020 with no symbol, no code of conduct and no activists, or if they had defeated all the mafia-like political parties in our country and seen the victory of 2020 in those panchayats, one need only think of how great the magic he would have done in the East.

What I like most about what he said is that if someone comes to the  Kizhakkambalam panchayat office with a need, he will return as soon as he has done what he came for.  If it does not happen on the next day, the next day or the next day, the person's ward member, certificate, or other benefits, if any, must be delivered to the person's home.  This means that a person does not have to go to the panchayat office a second time for one purpose.  What a beautiful democratic concept.  What politicians who deceive the people by saying great democratic socialist ideas cannot do, is implemented in a panchayat overseen by a corporate boss.  It should be remembered that the Kizhakkambalam is in Kerala, the Malayalee who always goes to government offices for a small thing and puts on his shoes.

Another thing is that Kizhakkambalam is the only panchayat that has its own fire force and can use farm implements and tractors for free to the farmer.  What else is behind it?  From billions of scanning machines to Volvo buses, we hear so much news that they are being destroyed without maintenance.

Paddy is now grown profitably in the paddy fields of the Eastern Ghats.  Sabu Jacob also shared the fact that Kizhakkambalam will soon become the largest fruit producing panchayat in Kerala.  While other panchayat members in Kerala receive a salary of Rs.  If someone is approached without money to go to the hospital or otherwise it is the duty of the ward member to give them what they need from this money.  How can democracy be better utilized?

What I am going to say is the extreme state of intolerance and jealousy of a politician.  Shouldn't the Election Commission be talking about the couple's right to vote?  If a person from Amethi can contest in Wayanad, what is the impediment for a person from Wayanad to exercise his voting right in the East Coast?  Sabu Jacob gave a reward of Rs 1 lakh to those who voted despite being physically abused by the political mafia.

Finally, political parties are constantly making a misleading statement that only political parties should exercise democracy.  It was seen in that discussion as well.  This is because if such talented people come on the scene, they are convinced that the whole life of these people who make a living from politics will come to an end.  The Constitution contains guidelines on what is needed in a democracy, and anyone who abides by it and delivers accurate services to the people can become a participant.  What the head of a corporate body pretends to be is ugly and the politician who listens to the party's discipline and acts accordingly is only spitting out perfume, which is just an exercise in the politician's stomach.

If there is anyone who is jealous of countries like Sweden, Norway, etc., who are jealous of being the country with the happiest people, they should go to the East Coast and find out if 2020 has given them happiness even if they are not the happiest.  Ministers and politicians need to realize their incompetence and promote greats like Sabu Jacob as advisers and consultants.  Let’s at least skip a foreign visit and go to the East Coast and at least learn what they are doing there.

MG Sreekumar, an invaluable asset to Malayalam music industry

As a lover of music of all genre, particularly of Eastern origin, I have been following the Malayalam TV programme called Top Singer, presently in season 2, to select the best young singer in the age group of 5 to 15, on Colours TV, religiously for almost two years now. Among the judges, the one who has been there consistently throughout the 2 years, except for a handful of episodes has been the great singer MG Sreekumar.

Throughout this period of two years I have been impressed by the humble presence of MG Sreekumar. Though a great singer himself, he has a very tender and loving heart. Throughout these two years, he has never got upset at the performance of the children at the event.

During these two years he has never, even for a moment, tried to show off that he is a great singer, though the Malayalis world have great appreciation for his golden voice. Though he pulls the legs of fellow judges as much as he pulls the legs of the very young competitors too, never has he left any scar in these young tender minds.

After every performance he very softly points out the mistake, but reminds the singer that he/she is indeed very talented, only that the particular moment is not his/her's.  Then he gently prods the singer to try his or her best again next time. I am sure the young singers very much like to hear such expert training sessions from the master.

Malayalees are very much upset that the greatest Malayalam singer Yesudas does not have any time to spare for the budding singers of Malayalam cinema, the result being that Yesudas will only be remembered for his songs but not for his humility or a helping mind. The selfless dedication of MG Sreekumar to shape and mould the future singing prodigies of Malayalam cinema is something remarkable and unforgettable. Malayalees world over will forever be indebted to MG.

I am sure Malayalees world over would agree with me and we all in one voice extend our deep appreciation and gratitude to MG Sreekumar for the great and selfless service and dedication to the Malayalam art world.

We will forever remember MG's great service in helping mould the  future singing prodigies of the Malayalam singing world. A big Thanks Sir .. !!!

The kind gesture of inviting the child prodigies of season 1 as special guests to listen, prod and motivate the fresh singers of season 2 is also a first-in-the-world step in encouraging the youngsters .. A very kind gesture. No words can express our gratitude for the kindness Colours TV is showering on these young promising singers ..

Top 50 English pop songs of all time ..

Dr Mick Grierson from Uty of London examined a whole host of songs that appeared in ‘greatest songs of all-time’ lists in newspapers, on music stations like VH1 and in iconic music publications such as Q, NME and Rolling Stone for many years ..

Commissioned by car manufacturer Fiat, who wanted to identify a song they could use to promote the FIAT 500, Mick also used analytical software in an attempt to put a finger on what exactly made those tunes iconic.

How to overcome the trust deficit ??

The trust deficit the Jacobite clergy has in the Orthodox clergy and vice versa, I feel, is the reason for the stalemate in the CM mediated and other peace initiatives and talks between the two oldest Christian factions in Kerala.

Will Orthodox clergy be ready to give whole Orthodox and Jacobite parishes under the guidance of Jacobite bishops and be ready to be their deputies ? That is the way to instil trust and confidence in the other party.

The Jacobite clergy does not want peace dictated to them, it can never be lasting peace. Their argument is very simple, though not stated openly. Their forefathers also shed their sweat, blood and tears to build the churches for 1900 years before the split happened. *An honourable and respectable union is what they sincerely desire*.

Sadly, the orthodox top clergy, with no sincere intention to bring eternal peace, lacks the basic intelligence to understand this and *insists on dictated peace with the Jacobites*. Any idiot can see through this game plan of ours.

Can some educated and intelligent members of Malankara Orthodox clergy and laity together (we have many respectable public leaders) take leadership and initiative to replace the insincere people in the leadership to bring lasting peace in the United single church ? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Who is helping Malayalam music industry most, Yesudas or MG Sreekumar ?

Being a person with some basic training in Carnatic classical music, I have been following Malayalam music industry, both film music, light music, classical music for more than forty years now since my school days in Don Bosco Irinjalakuda.

I have great respect for Dr K J Yesudas, as a great singer but these days I get slowly disillusioned with his contributions to the music industry. The reasons are given below.

The singers like MG Sreekumar, M. Jayachandran etc. are taking part in talent shows of younger stars and are giving them great encouragement. But I do not see this encouragement and motivation coming from Yesudas Sir. Being a great father and a parent, Yesudas tries to  promote his sons to the music industry, but rarely have I seen him promoting new budding talent.

Even though the whole Malayalam music world considers Yesudas Sir as a demiGod, why is Yesudas Sir turning his attention away from the youngsters, who have all potential to be singers better than Yesudas sir imself ? Why is he not motivating and encouraging youngsters in the music field ?

On the contrary, I am surprised and taken aback by the selfless support and encouragement given by MG Sreekumar to the Malayalam music scene for the past many years. Sreekumar takes great interest in motivating and promoting youngsters to the music world

In the past two years watching Top Singer musical talent programme on 24 channel on Flowers TV, I have full praise for MG Sreekumar for the great service he is doing to the music industry. The way Sreekumar motivates and encourages budding singers to do their best, to never mind if they commit mistakes, if they fail  he motivates them to do better the next time and tries to be one among them. All these speak talks volumes of the great mind and good intentions of MG Sreekumar.

I have great respect for Sreekumar Sir as my elder brother, he is very valuable to the Malayalam music industry. Sadly Yesudas sir is showing signs of age and tiredness, does not care about budding newcomers..  I am extremely pained at telling this truth.

I bow my head in front of MG Sreekumar who is doing a great service to the Malayali youngsters. MG deserves the full support and respect of Malayalis from across the world as much as Yesudas sir, if not more ..

I hope Yesudas Sir would now devote more time with the budding singers of today motivating them, if so, posterity will be thankful and remember him for ever ..

Are we giving and taking respect in the Orthodox church ?

It is very shameful and shocking that the most important stakeholder in the whole orthodox Jacobite church issue  the *church going, innocent, devout public, who are being taken for a ride and conveniently ignored* by other less important war mongering entities in the church, including the clergy, who do not want peace in the church, in the second round of discussions with the CM today.

Hope everyone respects others, becomes more accommodative of others. Hope all stakeholders become conscious, vigilant  and assertive of their roles and responsibilities in the church .. ๐Ÿ™

Avoid the clergy in the feud - a creative solution to the Malankara Orthodox church factional feud ..

Malankara Orthodox church in India is going through a grave crisis. As an informed member of laity of the Malankara Orthodox church, I am suggesting an innovative, creative solution to solve the dispute between the two factions of Orthodox church.

Some questions from the people of the church..
  • For whom does a religion and a church exist, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who forms the congregation in the church. the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who is funding the church, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who is donating the land for the church, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who is donating money to build the churches, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who is working for a salary from the church, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who are well informed and educated among the stakeholders, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Whose ancestors are buried at the church tombs or cemeteries, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who gets on the road for the church, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who provides the money for any litigation, the clergy or the believers ?
  • Who are the main beneficiaries from the church, the clergy or the believers ?
Who is the employee and who is the employer here ? It is very sad and unfair when employees boss over the employer.

We all know the very existence of the church is for the believers. The whole institution of the church is of the laity, ie. of the believers, by the believers and for the believers ..
The whole rank and file of the clergy are existing just to serve the laity in the daily activities to help in prayers to the Lord..

The clergy has many important, saintly and saner things to do than fight on the roads or in the court .. The mismanagement that has happened over the past hundred years in this case,  in my opinion, has been due to the unprofessional interference by the clergy who should have restricted themselves to spiritual things.

Following saner experience and understanding,  let's keep the whole clergy from both sides, out of the picture and go for a consensus among the believers.

Do the laity on both sides want to continue the fight between the factions or do they want to unite and be a united church ?

After the July 2017 SC judgement, we have already spent more than Rs. 12 crore on litigation ( Rs  120,000,000/=) just as lawyer fees to forcefully take over 40 odd Jacobite churches.  How much more we have to spend to take over the other 700 odd churches forcefully ?

What great enmity and unrest are we going to create in society because of this forceful action from our side .. ?? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” Can we avoid this wasteful spend by offering an olive branch and lovingly taking the other faction along with us forward ?

We are already in a grave financial crisis as Federal Bank is at our throat to repay the Rs. 14 crore (Rs  140,000,000) we took as loan for the Parumala cancer hospital, and we are definitely going to falter in the repayment.

One day, the financial burden of the Parumala hospital is definitely going to fall on each member of the laity of our church. We need to see through this game plan of the clergy..

We need honest, plain speaking, bold and effective laity leadership to help solve the crisis permanently once for all.

The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace - Mahatma Gandhi ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Education, the true healer ..

From my interactions and readings of our past and present clergy, I am amazed at how constrained, selfish and narrow minded their thought processes are, how intolerant they are to criticisms or to any forward thinking .. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

It is very sad, I agree. It is high time we reformed our Orthodox Theological Seminary education of the Malankara Orthodox and Jacobite Syrian Orthodox church. We should seriously consider giving our clergy, past and present, Universal education, to help look at the bigger picture which will help them open up their minds, than just giving them narrow minded, religious Seminary education.

The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth - J.F. Kennedy

Poor education and the unwillingness and prejudice to recognize learned, sensible, educated people is the root cause of all evils facing our church.

It is high time we did serious soul searching..  *True education is a great healer* ..๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Losing jobs during Covid time..

In my career spanning thirty your years after passing out from the Govt. College of Engineering, Trivandrum, starting from my first job at Cochin Port Trust to my present job at Alliance University, Bangalore, I have had the good opportunity to voluntarily change jobs five times, get kicked out two times and presently I am in my eighth job in the eighth year .. Don't know what will happen. A 120 micron pathogen, Covid 19 virus is doing damage this time, not just locally, but world-wide.

How does it feel like to lose one's job ? This question is more valid and meaningful during the present Covid times as all of us are staring at uncertain and unclear futures when Covid virus is breathing down our necks.

It is said during this Covid time almost 122 million daily wage workers from across India lost their jobs and almost 200,000 white collared workers from the management side too lost their jobs. But do we need to get unduly agitated over this development ?

How does it feel to be kicked out of one's job ? We are usually wedded to our job as we tend to give our best to the job and spend a good part of our waking time, almost 50% to it. When our employers find a misfit between our qualifications and experience with the job requirements, we become a suitable candidate for firing. Usually it does not happen overnight, but our incompetence gets developed over a period of time.

Firing from our job usually causes a massive shock for the first week, but over time, one gets over the shock and tries to find the good part of the act, get up from where we have fallen, blame ourselves for our misfortune, sharpen and hone up our skills in other relevant area and look for a new job.

My earlier experience in the firing zone has given me enough courage to write about it and wait and watch to see what would happen to me if the situation gets bad in the near future over the Covid virus.

The post-firing period in this Covid time would also have four stages

1. Understand the situation
2. Accept the reality
3. Hone up one's skills and
4. Be positive of the future.

While going through this paper in HBR of April '20 by Sally Maitlis from Oxford Said School of Business, Making sense of the future after losing a job you have, it brought back interesting thoughts of how to cope with job layoffs that would happen in this Covid time.

I hope people take it in the right spirit and go ahead. The world is not going to end tomorrow or the day after.

Yoga and it's importance in my life..

It was in IIT Bombay during 2003, while getting ready to present my pre-synopsis for the PhD that I first had the issue of low back ache. Sitting for hours at a stretch in front of the PC, my back muscles had got wasted. Except for a brief stretch of yoga, which I discontinued later,  my low back ache pain has been recurring frequently necessitating hospital admission every two years on an average.

The last time I got admitted to St. Johns, Bangalore, doctors suggested it was the final thing, the disc prolapse was too big and hence had to be operated and removed. It was my fate I thought and got ready with Anila at St. Johns hospital for surgery. Met Dr, Issac, HOD who asked me to get clearance from other areas and we went to the blood dept. It was here that my sister at GIC Corp Mumbai called up and asked me come what may, to go home and take rest.

It's almost 3 years now. Practicing a combination of physiotherapy and yoga, I can say with all my heart that there is not better exercise for the back than Yoga.

It gives you strength, flexibility, and mind-body awareness. Yoga can help you stay flexible and strong without putting added stress on your joints. You get the added benefit of a mind-body approach that can help you relax and energize. If you're pregnant, yoga can help keep you relaxed, strong, and in shape : webmd.com

I never thought I would be able to carry even one kg, but now I do all the shopping and some times I carry even 15-20 kgs bag in my hand and walk home.

John's Hopkins medical school has this to say about yoga ..

Harvard Medical school has this to say about yoga ..

Yoga has given the needed tenacity and strength to my back muscles.

International Blood donation Day, June 14..

At the small function in St Johns Hospital.
St. John's Hospital Bangalore is the favourite place where I go for voluntary blood donation. Maybe that could have been the reason why they invited me on June 13 for the function to celebrate the International Blood Donation day at St. Johns Hospital, Bangalore.

One of the elderly wellwishers was worried why blood donation at this time of global Covid infection, I calmed his sincere concerns after a brief talk.

I reached the St. John's blood bank on their invite 15 mins esrly on 13 June '20. After an introduction with the Dy. Director  the program started with many doctors and nurses.

Dr. Seetalakshmi was my host, though Dr. Jyoti Idiculla, HOD, Gen. Medicine and wife of my CET friend John Mathew was also present. Most of the speakers spoke of the virtues of blood donation.

One does not know who of them will benefit..
I spoke of my experience of blood donation from 1984 at Trivandrum Medical college SUT hospital, Regional Cancer centre (RCC) TVM, Goa Medical College, IIT Bombay hospital, Nanavati hospital Mumbai etc.

From 2007, its been in Bangalore, back to St John's, Bangalore, Narayana Hrudayalaya Bangalore, Swami Vivekananda Trust, Bangalore, St. Gregorios Orthodox church Bangalore etc ....

In the process of donation ..
After the programme and tea, I went for the second blood donation of the year. Usually 450 ml of blood is taken at a time, given that I  have not had any infection over the past 3 months. It can be seperated and upto 3 patients can make use of the blood plasma and platelets.

At little above 90 kgs, it is my selfish interest too to trim down.. Blood donation has helped me keep perfect health over the past 35 years, except for a low back ache which is now perfectly under control, thanks to daily yoga.

The many benefits of blood donation

Once you start giving blood, most of the time the donor will never have a health condition which warrants blood, this is my experience. I have done more than 30 times so far and going strong.
I recommend every human being to donate blood at least once every year. I was told that being a regular blood donor, I will be able to donate upto the age of 65 years, another 9 years. I look forward to giving life to at least 25 people more by then.

I was fortunate enough to be of help to some of my Professors at IIT Bombay and even to this day, I am in touch with them.

Should churches in Kerala be opened now amdist the Covid scare ?

On the 8th of June 2020, after a long gap of almost two and a half months, the religious institutions in Kerala are opening up. Is it a safe and healthy practice ?

The complete inability of religions to address the issue of anguish and grief by interfering to reduce the pain did not materialise during the Covid time, basically because of the fact that religion is man-made and is another ploy and business of some leaders to fool the public on their ignorance.

Another fact is that there are group of parasites who live off the resources of the church which is a very shameful act. Even though this is not very visible upfront, these people take the contract to supply major food items, meat etc during festivals of the church The funds given by the believers in the hope that it would be dispensed to the poor and needy in society is grabbed by these parasites, who in the name of festivals and God misuse these funds meant for helping the poor for church expenses.

Opening of the churches on 8 June is not good for the believers. It only helps to spread the disease and not contain it. The spiritual workers of all religious institutions across the world, the priests and other people who live off the churches, should exercise restraint at this moment.

Let the Covid spread be contained before we open the churches and temples.

Poem - in memory of George Floyd

In Memory of #George Floyd#
( from the Internet..)

I want to breathe
But I cant breathe

I could not see his face
His knee was on my neck
Life was going fast away from my soul
I want to breathe
But I can't breathe

46yrs ago, I learnt my first word
Mama! mama! mama!
25th May 2020,I spoke my last word
Mama! mama! mama!
And I still pleaded because
I want to breathe
But I cant breathe

My color was black
His color was white
My crime was black
His right was white
I still want to breathe
But I cant breathe

Minneapolis is burning
Real Americans are angry
The world is shocked in disbelief
Because I wanted to breathe
But i cant breathe
They were four of them
Four  messengers of death

I saw the face of my wife
I felt the smiles of my kids
I remembered my friends
For their sake
I just needed to breathe
But I cant breathe

I asked for water
The pain was getting more
My neck hurts
My stomach hurts
My eyes were closed in agony
My offence again?
My color was black
His color was white

I have paid the price
Price of being black
Cry no more Minneapolis
I was one of the added numbers
My blood on that pavement
Will always remember that
I wanted to breathe
But I had no right to breathe

My offence again?
My color was black
My name George Floyd
My crime was black
His color was white
His name Derek Chauvin
His right was white
He has the right to breathe

I want to breathe
I can't breathe!
But someday this battle shall
Be over.
I go in peace but remember
25th May 2020
Mama!mama!mama!
My last word!

George Floyd death - a pivotal point in US history, his death should not go in vain ..

United States has been heavily reeling under the Corona virus attack for
the past thee months heavily and then comes this shocking violation of a black man's human rights in US.

US over the past one week has been reeling under street violence at the killing of a black, George Floyd, on the pretext of carrying a fake $20 bill. The charge was not proved but in the process of handcuffing him and taking him into custody, the Police officers acted with stated racist intentions and one of them Derek Chauvin pressed his knee against the neck of Floyd while he was constrained on the ground or almost seven minutes, ensuring he was killed. The video file showing the gruesome gory killing must have been seen by almost everyone interested in human rights.

Click here for a NY Times video ..

If we look at how the different races constitute the US population, the over dominance of the whites is very evident.
  • Whites 61 %
  • Hispanics and Latinos 19%
  • Blacks 12% and
  • Asians 8%.
Here are some simple questions the world would like to know from the US Police dept and citizens from US in particular.
  • Is a black man still free to walk on American streets with his head held high without fear of intimidation and arrest by the Police ?
  • Why always an attack on a Black man ends in use of so much force that it ends in loss of life, only of the black man ?
  • Even after US getting formed almost 244 years back why is US still not able to provide sense of security to one of their minority groups ?
  • Why anytime a crime is carried out, the finger of suspicion is first raised against a black man than a white man ?
  • Why have the US government not been able to handle this racial prejudice against the black community members in US successfully and convincingly, even after Martin Luther King's exhortations fifty years back ?
  • Why has the US President TRUMP not come up with a reassuring statement assuring the Blacks that their fundamental rights will be protected ?7. Is the US President's silence an indication of his moral complicity in this racial murder ?
US is passing through a leadership crisis now. US needs a LEADER now. A President who does not want to talk frank and straight of the racial divide in US society and try to assuage it is not the person who can lead US. He should be impeached by the Supreme Court and asked to hand over charge to the SC Chief Justice.

The US citizens are forced to find a final solution. Hope they find a resolution to this issue of racial violence once for ever.

Let not the death of George Floyd go in vain. Let not there be another George Floyd .. Enough of racism, humanity has outgrown it long back. Let our hearts open and accept everyone else for their values, not on the colour of their skin. ๐Ÿ™

How Covid brought relatives and friends together ..

Covid time has given us many shocks, it has also given us many surprises.

I have many relatives and friends in the western hemisphere. It was difficult tying to talk to them and even difficult to meet them as they were busy with their rich, successful, material, busy lives and we with ours.

But with the onset of the Covid virus, I got the golden opportunity to renew friendships, meet so many of my old classmates and relatives, who were earlier too busy to talk to us but now had the time and willingness to talk to us mortal beings on this past of the globe.
Covid virus, courtesy Harvard Medical School.

The massive spread of the Corona virus in the western world and its ensuing deaths and grief in the western world shocked everyone around the world. While the virus was spreading like wildfire in the west, its spread was less in Asia and Europe. Is it a delayed contagion or reduced impact contagion, only time can tell.

How did Asian countries (other than China, who was excessively greedy and was looking at dominating the world) manage the successful containment through social preventive measures like a strictly deployed lockdown and social distancing in society help them to contain the spread of the virus. The politicians managed to convince the population of the urgency much better than in the west. In the west we could see people openly challenging the dictats of the government on roads and through the media. They were conveniently forgetting the fact that these strict containment measures were for the well being of the people.

The western world was taken aghast at how successfully we in India were able to comply with the strict social measures much more successully than in the west, to contain the spread of this virus and turned around to find out what we did right and what we did correctly. As of the time of writing this article, India has just 2100 deaths for a population of 1300 million compared to 80,000 plus in US with a population one fourth of India at 320 million. It clearly demonstrates the failure and lack of competitiveness and concern for the common man in the western society. Everything is based and measured on economic terms.

During the covid time, old friends started calling up and old friendships were renewed, which was a good thing. Now I feel for lasting peace in the world, we need to have more such viruses attacking the world more often, so that people do not forget their original humble backgrounds, friends and relatives. But I should say there were some true friends and relatives who were sincere in their relationships from beginning itself.

We need to understand that in this world, we are all together, no man is an island, we all live and die together.

With the threat of society taking more time to develop herd immunity and delay in coming out was a successful vaccine to contain the virus, the future picture does not look promising. With no successful cure in sight, the news of medical practitioners succumbing to the virus is another issue of concern. The complete surrender of humanity , irrespective of class, colour, creed and race, being rich or poor, healthy or unhealthy, educated or illiterate, the kneeling down in front of the virus has been apalling, shocking, nauseating and sickening.

Humans behaving strangely an boastfully, forgetful of their helplessness in front of nature and God, has been there from time immemorial. How culture, education, knowledge and wisdom will take us forward as humans is what matters most.

Lubuntu 19.04 Linux for my 8 year old HP 430 laptop ..

My 8 year old HP 430 laptop had started of late giving problems of slow performance. I had only 2 GB RAM and a dual core Core 3 setup.

Tried working on Linux Mint for about 2 years, worked fine, and recently shifted to Ubuntu 20.04. The whole system got slow. During this Covid time, a slow computer flows down your work. Also the computer was getting heated up.. After loading MS Teams  it was super slow.

I found that 1 GB Lubuntu 19.04 was light on an old computer of 2 GB RAM. After installing Lubuntu, I find the computer has become fast. Thanks Lubuntu ..

Should see how MS Teams works on it ..

Why is US the cause of so much ridicule and derision ?

Would Americans have been so much ridiculed, mocked at, derided, scoffed at, shamed and jeered globally had their President acted with restraint and humility when the initial news of Covid virus deaths in US broke out ?

US citizens led by their highly respectful President were haughty and foolishly over-confident of their advances in science, technology, medical R&D  and healthcare advances that they rubbished all news of a health crisis, considered themselves to be above any such crisis and initially violated, worse still, ignored all norms of social distancing.

They never thought a 120 nm virus could cause so much damage, death and bring much grief to US nation and it's proud people. They totally forgot healthcare was not a service, it was a business in US.

A great humbling lesson for other nations to understand ground reality, beware false pride .. The cries of agony, despair and grief of millions of Afghani and Iraqi innocents children orphaned, adults killed or maimed reverberate in the thick air over NY WTC and Washington DC ..

Let's be humble and caring of others ..

Tata's value system - living story ..

Came across this inspiring and moving anecdotal account about Tata group’s value system. You may like to read this : (explains why Tata still continues to be the most respected Global brand post second World war.)
——————————

It was the year 1946. Germany stood devastated by the Second World War. The Allies had won the war, and many German cities, including Munich, had been severely damaged by the British Royal Air Force. Munich, the picturesque capital of the Bavarian region of Germany, and centre of the country’s diesel engine production, had suffered as many as 74 air-raids. More than half the entire city had been damaged or destroyed.

On one gloomy morning that year, at the Munich Railway station, stood the Directors of Krauss Maffei, the reputed German engineering Company. They were waiting for the arrival of their guests from India. Founded in 1838, Krauss Maffei was a leading maker of locomotives of various types, and an engineering company with a formidable reputation. Unfortunately, the Company now stood devastated by the World War, since their factories had been destroyed by the Allied Forces.

The guests from India got down from their train. They were Directors from the Tata Group in India. If you had been there, you would have seen JRD Tata, the young, tall, lanky Chairman of the Group, get off the train. And accompanying him was a forty-year old engineer, Sumant Moolgaonkar, representing TELCO (now Tata Motors). They had come to Munich for discussions with Krauss Maffei, regarding the manufacture of locomotives in India. What they found, instead, were scenes of destruction and ruin.

The Germans requested the Indians to take some of their unemployed engineers to India, alongwith their families, and provide them jobs and shelter. The Directors of Krauss Maffei are reported to have told the Tata Directors – "They are very skilled people. They will do whatever you ask them if you take care of them. They can also teach your people."

This would have to be done without a formal contract, because the British, who were still ruling India, had forbidden Indian Companies from having any contracts with German Corporations, during those times of the World War. But this request was urgent, and compelling. Because in that year, with factories lying destroyed, unemployment in Germany was rampant, and the then German currency, the Reichsmark, had become almost worthless.

The Tata Directors agreed to this request, and assured the Germans that their people would be well looked after. The German engineers from Krauss Maffei then came to India, and they were provided good jobs and housing by the Tata Group. They were well taken care of, and they also rendered great service to Tata Motors.

In 1945, Tata Motors had signed an agreement with the Indian Railways for manufacture of steam locomotives, and this is where the German engineers provided valuable technical expertise. They helped the Company manufacture locomotives, which were amongst the Company’s very first products.

In 1947, India became independent. In the 1950s, Tata Motors moved on to manufacture trucks in collaboration with Daimler Benz.

Many years had now passed since that fateful meeting at the Munich Railway Station. Germany had substantially recovered from the ravages of the war, and the reconstruction effort had borne great fruit. In one of these happier years, the Board of Directors of Krauss Maffei was surprised to suddenly receive a letter from India.

This letter was from the Tata Group. It offered grateful thanks for the services of the German engineers, and it contained an offer of compensation to Krauss Maffei for the skills which had been transferred by the Germans to Tata Motors.

Krauss Maffei was surprised, even taken aback at this offer. There was no legal contract, and therefore no obligation for the Tata Group to pay any compensation. In fact, I think, neither did this expectation exist, because the Tata Group had helped by providing jobs and shelter to the otherwise unemployed German engineers, during those dark days. So, the Germans were astonished, as they read the Tata letter.

This story was narrated many, many years later, in the 1970s, by Directors of Krauss Maffei, to Arun Maira, then a senior Director of Tata Motors. Arun Maira is one of India’s most respected and distinguished business thinkers today. In a thoughtful article that he wrote for the Economic Times in 2005 (thank you, Mr. Maira, for this wonderful piece), he recollects how two elderly German gentlemen met him as part of a business transaction in Malaysia, jumped up, shook his hands, and wanted to express their deepest gratitude to him. They then narrated to him this fascinating story, which, they said, is now part of their Company’s folklore.

One interesting and unexpected sidelight of this story occurred when Tata Motors was asked to provide a legally binding financial guarantee in the 1970s, but this was rendered very difficult because of the Indian Government’s regulations at that time. This matter was taken up to German bankers, who said that a guarantee on a Tata letterhead, signed by the Chairman, was more valuable than any banker’s guarantee.

I do not know what exact thoughts ran through the minds of Tata Directors in the 1950s before they sent that letter to Krauss Maffei, offering compensation where none was agreed upon or expected. But I think the Tata Group did this because it was the right thing to do.

The right thing to do is never defined by formal agreements or legal contracts alone. Neither is it defined by the expectations that others have of us.

What is right is defined by our own high expectations of ourselves, by the culture of fairness and trust that we wish to establish. Are we being truly fair to the people and the Companies we work with?

We always know, if we listen deeply enough to our inner voice, whether we are being totally fair and right. The Krauss Maffei story holds such a beautiful lesson for all of us.

What steps should we focus post-Covid for a better world ?

What global changes should we look forward to, post Covid, to make planet earth more sustainable,  economically,  environmentally and socially ?

1. Can we have a new, resurgent, hygienic, healthy India and a just world  post Covid ?

2. Can we sensitise our people to less exploit nature and non-renewable natural resources?

3. Can we motivate our people to use to the most our ingenuity and innovative thinking to save resources and preserve nature?

4. Can we get the people of the world to use more renewable resources in our industrial and daily energy mix ?

5. Can we be more tolerant,  considerate and care for our co-habitants on planet earth, all flora and fauna ?

6. Can the economically advanced countries of the world be less selfish and  more considerate to their less fortunate neighbors?

7. Can we take to a more vegan diet to help save other living beings and our co-habitants on planet earth ?

8. Can we take a joint promise to less pollute the air, water and land around us  ?

The rich developed western world has come to realise that we are all in it together, no people is exclusive, our futures are inter-dependent. We all leave this planet simple  and plain, without any glory.

Let's take this as a once only, golden opportunity to give a richer planet to our children .. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Were'nt we earthlings moving too fast ??

A time to re-think ..

The Covid season has given us a lot of time over the past five weeks to find what went wrong with planet earth. It is golden opportunity for us earthlings to rethink and restrategise our priorities in the years ahead.

This is, as some body claimed, regeneration time for planet earth.  It is silent time for the people of the world to sit back and look at the events of the past thirty or forty years which has been unnerving and has disturbed the global ecological balance.

It all boils down to the ecological imbalance and disturbance which our over-consumerist lifestyle have done on the society. If we have close look at the death toll across countries, we find cultures that have been over-exploitative of natural resources, over-indulgent of pleasures and over-obsessed with the personal rights and freedoms of individuals over the greater common good,  have suffered maximum. It teaches us a great truth, personal liberty cannot override societal welfare.

We were exploiting natural resources too fast, we were killing other inhabitants of planet earth, the animals, flora and fauna, too fast to suit our over materialistic, consumerist life style.

We were exploring and finding newer and newer ways to exploit natural resources, oil, gas, minerals, ores, metals etc. at rates unprecedented in the history of planet earth.

Planet Earth will take some more time to heal itself. the rivers and streams need to get cleaned up, the fishes and corals of the oceans need to feel the fresh water with raised levels of dissolved Oxygen, the air needs to feel fresh with less pollutants, the atmosphere need to feel less the burden of green house gases, less heating up of the atmosphere, less melting of the polar ice caps, the list is endless ...

The domesticated livestock, dairy farm animals and specially the poultry in billions around the world need to feel safer, less exploited, threatened and allowed to survive, to make this planet as green, as pleasant and livable for all living beings..

Our materialistic consumerist lifestyle has taught us many life lessons. Let us take a new pledge to
  • disturb our environment less
  • to live and let other flora and fauna on earth to live
  • to exploit the non-renewable natural mineral and oil, gas resources at a lesser rate
  • to reduce our killing of animals and over harvesting of the oceans of fishes and thus reduce over craving for non-veg food
  • help develop environmentally sustainable innovative technologies
  • to rethink our development models and patterns
Let us promise to make our planet a better place to live.

mallu Covid parody songs

Some good Covid malayalam parodies

Veettilirikkenda timeaanu ..

A, B, C classification of Covid countries ..

Ref to my earlier chart on covid infections, deaths and recovery as of 23 April 2020.

As per ABC classification, identifying the vital few, trivial many -

Top 5 countries - have the shocking 73% of global deaths (A class, > 20,000 deaths) includes US, Italy, Spain, France and UK.

Next 10 countries - constituting 20% global deaths (B class, between 20,000 and 1000 casualities) include Belgium, Iran, Germany  China, Netherlands, Brazil, Turkey, Canada, Sweden and Switzerland.

Rest 195 countries of the world account for the balance 7% of global Covid casualties.. (C class, < 1000 casualities) ..

The secondary measures to contain the Covid 19 virus spread should be different in the A, B and C type of countries, harsh, to moderate and less moderate.

Over the next one year, will global countries be ready to brace up for more tighter controls, leading to less loss of lives ?

In Kerala, anyone found intentionally violating the public lockdown is being sent to a 14 day quarantine.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Saddest day in US history ..

Another sad and serious day for US in Covid cases and deaths, upto 14 April '20.

A. Total infections so far: 612,320 ( +25,379 on 14 April '20)
B. Total deaths so far : 25,989 ( +2,349 - 14 April, highest deaths so far on any day)
C. Total Recovered : 38,721
D. Present active cases : 547,610

A = B + C + D

E. Serious and critical : 13,473 (from this will come tomorrow's casualities) ..

On one side, the US President, unmindful of casualties and costs in human lives, wants to restart US businesses and kickstart the economy in an election year and latch on to its #1 developed country status.

On the other hand doctors and healthcare professionals want the country to be on a lockdown to break the chain, contain the virus spread and limit the casualties.

The fear of losing its Superpower status is very much evident in all the actions of US.

With each day of arrogance of it's mighty military influence and power, each day of contemptuousness and disdain for other countries of the world, US is unknowingly pulling itself into a vast abyss of despair and despondency ... ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ณ

Post-Corona world - hopes for the future.

The world, almost 200+ countries , are experiencing a deep crisis now - the Covid 19 virus. Enough has been written about it and its impact, but none has tried to understand how the world will be affected and changed post-Corona.

We have seen deaths nearing about 80,000 across the world upto 8 April 2020, mainly in the United States, Italy, Spain, France and China. 94% of deaths around the world have happened in the top 15 infected countries.  Please click here .. United States leads the infection count which has crossed three hundred thousand till 8th April '20..

Does the future of this planet look bright, where is the world heading to ? Is there an end in sight soon ?  Imagine the grief in the homes, loss of productivity,  loss of global GDP ? Reports say a reduction in global GDP of about $2  trillion could be the economic damage from this crisis.

Can we expect a major rethinking by the countries of the world on what constitutes global peace, prosperity, nuclear-deterrence and non-proliferation ?

Are the nations of the world ready with the renewed parameters that would decide economic growth, economic development and economic might of the new World ? Are we going to see a new set of countries of the world taking over the economic leadership of the world ?

These are some of the questions which are ringing in the ears of almost all global citizens. Very soon we will come across a day when people will be working not for maximizing their profits or for maximizing their income but for the upliftment of fellow citizens, safety of our co-inhabitants on earth and betterment of social parameters of this world. It includes human beings and all living beings, ie. animals, plants, fishes, birds, reptiles and insects - to let the world grow and accommodate all living beings.

What can we propose, what should humanity do to protect the other living species on planet earth ? Our future is not independent of theirs. Let us hope the nations of the world take this seriously and put their brains to get to understand how the world should transform in the next two centuries.

To what extent can industries and organisations annually grow,  what constitutes fair growth and what is exploitative growth, what is corporate greed, what should be the annual progress of the planet,  a voluntary limit on exploitation of resources  whether our planet can be referred to any other planet as a model ?

The new Corona type virus to hit the people of the world necessitates humanity to think of self regulating itself. Will humanity over-exploit Mother Earth of its resources and give the other living beings a run for their survival?  Will we wipe out the other species from planet earth ?

These are all questions which are being posed to humanity by nature.  What is the collective decision humanity is going to take so that such pandemics can be contained ?

I can think of only one permanent solution, stop over-exploitation of earth's resources. Stop being over-obsessed that the earth and it's resources, other life forms populating it  are only for promoting and propagating HOMO SAPIENS .. If we had taken enough care of other species on planet earth and come to appreciate that only working jointly we have a future, humanity would never have gone this far in destroying our ecosystem.

In short, LIVE AND LET LIVE !!

Crowds at Delhi UP border .. Denied bright future ..

Crowds at the Delhi UP border waiting to cross over on the Covid virus crisis and resultant job losses. There could be a couple of Einsteins, 2-3 Nobel Prize winners, world-famous doctors, engineers and CEOs  in this group if not for the great wrongs they are subject to. ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

As Yuval Noah Harari and others opine, denial of opportunities due to a millennia old caste based hierarchical system of subjugation and oppression have denied these human beings many freedoms and human rights, which have never been denied to us and we take for granted. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

As one of my friends remarked, how fortunate we are .. Very true .. Isn't modern India failing these youngsters of a brilliant future ? If given opportunities, they can bloom into great individuals and personalities. Who is denying them these opportunities  ??

During this virus scare let us rebook at our priorities.  Are we denying them the potential to bloom, grow and be great achievers ?

How long can our society subjugate them ?

Is US faltering on the Corona pandemic front ?

The Covid 19 pandemic (commonly called the Corona virus spread) has been taking its toll across the world.  Starting from Wuhan animal meat in the Hubei province in China,  (Israeli intelligence though points fingers at the WHO Institute of virology where clandestine Chinese research was happening on bio-weapons), the virus spread from Wuhan by beginning of January till beginning of March for right weeks when the epidemic now became a pandemic.

China was slow to disclose the world that it was in the grip of the Corona virus. Since China was slow to disclose the facts, the restbof the world in good faith continued its transactions and engagements with China both at the private front and the government front.

South Korea ably handled the testing phase which made a big difference in identifying the infected, isolating them and reducing the deaths.

Where did US falter ? I am not an expert in advising policy on avoiding spread of global pandemics. But feel US should have declared a national lockdown ten days back , like India did on 15 March 2020.  Instead US citizens, unaware of the pandemic threat and buoyed up by an equally unaware political leadership took many wrong steps which over the past two days has seen US climb to the top position globally on numbers infected, crossing a lakh plus.

The virus is in total grip of US people, economy and society and only a divine intervention can help solve the situation and limit the damage. So worse is the situation that has gone out of control of the hand of US politicians. US families will see more deaths of citizens and ensuing heavy grief of losing loved ones.

Though President Trump wants to open the country for business activity before Easter,12 March,  Bill Gates differs with Trump on this front and wants the lockdownv to continue till all traces of the  virus are removed.

How soon will that happen is the question.

MG Sreekumar and M. Jayachandran on Colors TV Top Singer ..

Colors TV in Kerala brings an interesting malayalam musical TV programme every evening from 7.30 to 9.30 pm over the past 18 months for about 510 episodes featuring 21 kids between 6 and 13 years from the length and breadth of Kerala. .

A very constant presence at the show through these 18 months have been M G Sreekumar and M Jayachandran, the famed Malayali singer and music director respectively.

Both of them are now household names in Kerala. And a great striking aspect is that both of them are knowledgeable,  accommodative and strict with the gradings, yet humble and very supportive of the 21 children. No partiality. A negative comment has not yet come from their mouth all these 18 months while they are moulding and shaping the 21 finest voices in Indian and global music industry.  Only words of  encouragement and positive thoughts.  Great !! We bow our heads in front of both of you.

Their very knowledgeable comments and advice are indeed pearls of wisdom for these young participants and the future promising musical stars of Malayalam, Indian and global film and music industry.

Thanks to the sponsors, promoters, channel, judges and parents for this excellent encouragement, motivation and support for the program.

Good wishes to all young stars on Top Singer..

According to me this is the best performance on this programme in these 18 months, a duet by Nehal and Thejus ..
