Our Delhi visit , chinnu and myself..

It was a very pleasant visit to New Delhi, Jaipur and Agra from 19 April to 23 April 2013 with Chinnu.

Thanks a go in lot measure to the great hospitality from Ganesh and Lakshmi along with their 5.5 year old son Mihir. The Bangalore Delhi spicejet flight was a breeze and we were in ganeshs place by 12 midnight. Ganesh was in Manila and was expected on Sunday might..

The Delhi visit on 20 April took us all the way to Qutub Minar, Delhi Haat for shopping, Bahai' Lotus temple, Indira Gandhi memorial, India Gate, Nehru museum, Parliament, Rashtrapathi Bhavan ( last two only a glimpse) , Birla Mandir and Rajghat, the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. While returning we got down at Patel Chowk and took the famed Delhi metro to Malviya Nagar.

Sunday we went to the church, Hauz Khaz St. Marys Orthodox Cathedral. Evening we had a sumptuous dinner at Jijichayan and Sheelumama's place in Bapa Nagar near to India Gate.

Monday morning saw us taking the 6 am Panickers travels to Jaipur, we reached Jaipur around 11 AM. Saw the city palace of Raja Mansingh, Jantar Mandar and in the afternoon all of us went to Amber fort. The return trip from Amber took us to Birla Mandir again in Jaipur and back to Hotel Redfox for the night.

Tuesday early morn at 4 AM we were off to Fatehpur Sikri seat of power and govt of the Mughal emperors starting from Akbar.

Then we went to Agra fort, where we saw some of the best work on marble and the place where Akbar, Shahjehan, Aurangazeb ruled the empire. The Jasmine tower where Shahjehan was imprisoned by his son Aurangazeb and from where he watched the Taj Mahal for 26 years was also seen.

Immediately after some shopping and lunch at Agra Dasaprakash, we went to Taj Mahal. A great monument, as Tagore said, it is indeed "a teardrop on the cheek of time."

On the return path from Agra had a brief stopover at Mathura, the birth place of Srikrishna and then we set off to Delhi reaching home around 11 PM.

Wednesday was off, but we went to Patel chowk Metro station, saw the Metro museum and then went up to HUDA city centre on the yellow line and back to Malviya Nagar. Metro now has upto 179 kms of lines with app 2.1 million commuters daily as of Jan 2013. Regenerative braking system which converts the braking kinetic energy to electrical energy which is sent back to the electrical lines brings in Carbon credits for Metro and upto 1.2 crores annually for the next ten years upto 2017.

Evening we left home at around 6.30 PM off to the airport and by 1 AM we were back in bangalore at Koramangala.

Both visits within Delhi and to Jaipur, Agra were on Panickers travels. One thing I can vouch for them is it is really value for money. The penchant for sticking to times and showing us max tourist sites was very nice. We enjoyed Panickers travels and would recommend them for anyone interested in seeing Delhi..
